103: Configurations of Businesses

I always wonder what kind of businesses I’m unaware of because the founder chose to stay off the popular culture. It feels like most companies are either backed by VCs or publicly known. I don’t think I want to create a startup. I want to form a boring company that delivers. But I don’t know in which form or what this company would do.

In his piece There are Many Configurations of Business That Work, Cedric gives a good provocation and thinking frame. A few examples of how he uses them are on point. However, I found that the article is missing a perspective: a strategy to expand our horizon and search for various companies that operate differently. I understand that each company would be unique if we formed in different configurations. Yet, a frame to look for these companies and get inspired by them about what can be done would have been great. Now, it looks theoretical, and I felt the need to buy his subscription. Because he has extensive case studies on different companies, and because I feel lost about the next steps to start a company.
